Thomas Oord thru hike 2012

Thomas Oord has started his south-to-north ICT thru-hike attempt.  He began at the Nevada border on Sunday June 3rd and is already at the southern end of the Sawtooth Mountains.  I have been following his Spot messenger updates.   Let's cheer him on as he attempts to go all the way on the ICT in the next few weeks, targeting mid August for the finish line.    his latest Spot link (this opens in Google maps).

Thanks for posting this, Ron. I've tried several times to post updates on this blogsite, but to no avail.

I did more than 100 miles of walking around other places in Idaho before starting the ICT. I did Hells Canyon in April, two weeks in the Owyhees in May, a bit in Craters of the Moon, at the base of the Tetons, and City of Rocks. I also spent a couple days hiking with my oldest daughter along the Snake river looking for petroglpyhs.

I start the ICT on June 3 down at the Nevada border. I hiked to Bruneau sand dunes before taking a couple days break. I resumed last week, and I finished the second leg at Willow Creek campground. I'm taking a whole week off now. I'll hike about 200 miles of the Frank Church/Selway-Bitterroot, and then I'll return to do the Sawtooths when the snow has melted more.

I'm planning to finish the whole trail this summer by August 20. I'm packing an extra 10 lbs of photo equipment. If anyone wants to see my photos, just friend me on facebook (Thomas Jay Oord).
